Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District

Second graders begin learning to type at the end of second grade. Keyboarding skills for all students are increasingly important, as future state exams will require them to complete extended writing responses in a single sitting. The word per minute (WPM) goal set by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is 15 WPM for 3rd graders and 20 WPM for 4th graders with 85% or greater accuracy. It is our goal to ensure that the mechanical skills required to do so (i.e. keyboarding and familiarity with word processing programs) are not a barrier for effective and clear communication.
